Terri Shaffer ~ Executive Director of Pink Hearts of Hope Fund

As a Radiologic Technologist specializing in mammography and breast biopsies, Terri has helped women on a daily basis conquer breast cancer for 30 years.  However, finding her own breast cancer through a routine mammogram at such an early age was not in the plan. The ONLY risk factor she had for breast cancer was being a female with breasts! Immediately she was dubbed the Poster Child for breast cancer…..early 40’s, pre menopausal and no family history. She also made the one big mistake many women make……skipping a yearly mammogram.

Her journey took an unexpected path when she was diagnosed with a second breast cancer in the opposite breast just 18 months later. This cancer was NOT related to the first one. If that wasn’t enough, diagnosis number 3 came just 6 months later. A total of three breast cancers in 2 years!

The final diagnosis was metastatic breast cancer in the lymph nodes. When the pathology report came back after a complete lymph node dissection, 22 out of 29 lymph nodes were positive.   That was over 2 years ago and she is still going strong today!

Continuing to help women battle cancer, she is still very active in her radiology career and is writing a book in hopes of easing the fears of women at the time of diagnosis. After finding a need for stylish, comfortable and fashionable head coverings while dealing with her own hair loss, Terri launched her business, Diva Scarves and Morein 2011 and added “Entrepreneur” to her title.

In 2011, Terri joined the We Believe Foundation as Executive Director of the Pink Hearts of Hope Fund to help make a difference in the lives of other young women battling breast cancer and to bring awareness to an age group that often forgets that they too are at risk of a disease that knows no boundaries and never discriminates based on age.

Jeanette Warner ~ Guest Chef
Jeanette Warne is a trained pastry chef and graduate (with distinction) of the Pastry Arts Program at L'Academie de Cuisine Culinary School in Gaithersburg, Maryland. She is also a self-taught cook whose early influences were formulated by her mother and grandmother.

"Growing up in what I remember as a lush, beautiful and bountiful Sierra Leone, I was no stranger to wholesome, fresh home cooking! Even though we didn't live on a traditional farm, we grew our own fruits and vegetables. We had a non-stop supply of fresh eggs hatched in our own thriving chicken coops. It was a common way of life which made it very hard for this Sierra Leonean girl to get used to the taste of what I often call “prefabricated foods” such as potatoes from a box or fast food! This artisan way of life, connection to our food source and growers and discriminating taste for finest ingredients is what defines me as a chef and cook, and passion is what drives me."

When she's not running her company, she's teaching classes or ultimately talking food all day long to whomever will listen!
